Four very distinct New Zealand seasons

Summer

New Zealand's summer spans from December to February. These are undoubtedly the warmest months of the year, with temperatures ranging between 20-30°C. It's the perfect time for visiting the stunning golden beaches that adorn the coast. Bay of Islands, Coromandel Peninsula and Abel Tasman National Park are popular options. The warm weather also beckons visitors to engage in thrilling outdoor activities like hiking, biking or exploring the verdant vineyards in Marlborough. Additionally, summer hosts several lively music and food festivals such as the Marlborough Wine and Food Festival and the Auckland Lantern Festival. Golfers flock to our World class courses, with Queenstown in particular being a favourite destination.

Autumn

As New Zealand heads into the pleasant autumnal season from March through May, the hues across the terrain dramatically transform, creating a visual feast. Autumn's mild climate makes it a fantastic season for those who prefer less crowded attractions. Visit Central Otago to relish the striking autumn colours along with their celebrated wines. Embark on the breathtaking Tongariro Alpine Crossing or traverse the Waikaremoana Great Walk as the weather cools.

Winter

Winter blankets New Zealand from June to August. The Southern Alps and Central Plateau become a snowy paradise, ideal for winter sports. Destinations like Queenstown, Wanaka and Mount Ruapehu are transformed into bustling hubs for skiing and snowboarding. Those who prefer milder winters should head to North Island, where the temperatures rarely fall below 10°C. This is also a great time to relax in the country's natural hot springs such as those in Rotorua and Taupo (both on the North Island) and Hanmer Springs (on the South Island).

Spring

Spring blossoms in New Zealand from September to November, revitalizing the landscape. The wildflowers in full bloom, against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains and crystal clear lakes, make it a photographer's paradise. Places like the Bay of Plenty and Canterbury are known for their spring beauty. It's prime time for white-water rafting as the melting snow increases river flows. Spring also marks the start of the lambing season, offering you a chance to witness the adorable newborns in the lush pastures.
