Where Do I Land In New Zealand?
Most international flights to New Zealand land at one of the three main international airports.
These are Auckland, at the northern end of the North Island, Wellington, at the southern end of the North Island, and Christchurch, centrally located on the east coast of the South Island.
In addition, international flights to New Zealand from Australia, also arrive and depart from Queenstown and Dunedin on the South Island, and from Hamilton in the central North Island.
Domestic New Zealand flights are available to a wide range of airports located throughout both islands.

Auckland Airport
Auckland is New Zealand's largest city, and is home to some 1.4 million people. Auckland is located in the north of New Zealand's North Island.
Auckland airport is about 14 miles (22 kilometres) south of the city centre. The journey takes around 40 minutes, and regular bus and taxi services are available. Auckland airport is the busiest and largest in New Zealand, and as at 2009, around 13 million passengers passed through the airport. Around 7 million of these were international passengers.

Wellington Airport
Wellington is the capital of New Zealand, and is located at the southern end of New Zealand's North Island. Wellington is the departure point for the Interislander ferry, linking both islands.
Wellington airport is located 5 miles (8 kilometres) southeast of the Wellington city centre (around 30 minutes drive). Regular bus and taxi services are available.

Christchurch Airport
Christchurch is the South Island's largest city, with a population of around 360,000 people.

Queenstown Airport
Queenstown is located on the shores of the spectacular Lake Wakatipu, and is known as the "Adventure Capital" of New Zealand.
Queenstown airport is located approximately 7 kilometres from the town centre, which is about 10 minutes drive. Taxis and buses run regularly. The airport is set against the spectacular backdrop of the Remarkables mountain range, which towers to 7,000 feet in places. If you are planning flights to New Zealand from Australia, Queenstown is a great alternative. The flight in over the Southern Alps is spectacular.
Air New Zealand and Virgin Blue have regular year round flights between Sydney and Queenstown.
Air New Zealand also operates seasonal services from Brisbane and Melbourne to Queenstown.

Alternative Travel Between Islands
Travel between the North and South Islands is also available on the
Interislander ferry,
which operates between Wellington on the North Island, and Picton, at the northern end of the South Island.
The voyage, which takes 3 hours, and covers 92 kilometres, has been described as one of the most beautiful ferry journeys in the world.
