Privacy and comfort are paramount at Timara Lodge.

All rooms have magical views over either the man made lake, the English style gardens, or to the distant mountains.

Your room has a king size bed (complete with fine italian linen), and it's own en suite bathroom, complete with hair dryer, heated towel rail, towels and toiletries. Some have their own spa bath-perfect for relaxing at day's end. Some also have a private sitting room.

Fine art, antiques and quality furnishings provide a feeling of luxury and refinement.

For your comfort, all rooms are air conditioned, non-smoking, and fully serviced.

Dining and Cuisine

Your host, Louis Schindler, has worked for some of Europe and New Zealand's leading restaurants.

His menus feature the very best kiwi produce, including lobster, salmon,

scallops, oysters and mussels from the Marlborough Sounds. New Zealand lamb, game and beef are carefully sourced from around New Zealand to ensure the best possible quality. Herbs and produce from the Lodge's own gardens ensure freshness. And a selection of wonderful desserts will leave you hungry for more.

And of course, Louis is happy to cater for any special dietary needs.

The Marlborough region is well known for the range and quality of it's wines. The Lodge specialises in wines from the Spy Valley range, but also has a large selection of locally produced vintages.

The Johnson Estate vineyards adjoin Timara, and are situated on the sunny southern side of Marlborough's Wairau Valley. Over 360 acres of free draining fertile soil produces eight varieties of premium grape for Spy Valley Wine.

At Spy Valley, the emphasis is on viticultural excellence. The result are wines that are classically Marlborough. Owning all our vineyards gives us total control of the winemaking process, and coupled with an extensive array of modern winemaking equipment, Spy Valley is able to consistently produce wines of outstanding quality.

Recreation

Leisure time is yours to do as you please. You may choose to relax by the pool, or stroll through our wonderful gardens. Or perhaps a game of tennis. Our Spy Valley winery adjoins Timara Lodge-why not take a tour and sample the Marlborough region's acclaimed Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc.

There are numerous other local wineries which also offer excellent lunch menus featuring the very best local produce.

If your desire is a more active stay, then a round of golf can be played at the nearby Fairhall Golf Course. Private gardens and boutique olive groves, fine art galleries and local craft studios are all within a short distance of the Lodge.

Other activities include bird watching and eco tours, cycling, walking, hunting, fishing (both fresh and salt water), 4 wheel driving, white water rafting, mountain biking, skiing, and horse trekking.

And of course a visit to Marlborough is not complete without sampling the wonders of the Marlborough Sounds. The sheltered waters comprise the Queen Charlotte, Pelorus and Kenepuru Sounds. They provide a wonderful setting for sailing, diving, fishing, cruising, kayaking and viewing the abundance of local marine life.

And within 90 minutes drive, you can sample the very best of the Nelson and Kaikoura regions.

To conclude your day, why not read a book in our library? Or perhaps enjoy a vintage wine, cognac, or fine malt whisky with other guests.

The choice is yours. Do as little, or as much as you desire.

Dear Michal & Louis, thank you for this most incredible experience! From the moment we arrived, we felt as if we were sharing a country home with good friends. Louis, every meal was exquisite and the wine pairings perfect! (Wow, that white chocolate custard!). Michal & Louis - the property of course is amazingly beautiful but we were most impressed with the quality of the service. The meals we've eaten have been without a doubt the best in New Zealand from Stewart Island to Cape Reinga. Thank you for being such gracious hosts. We had a wonderful stay in charming Timara Lodge. The garden is more beautiful than ever. We hope very much that Louis and Michal will stay in this stunning establishment for a long time. It is wonderful to have such a charming, cheerful couple as hosts. And the knowledge from Louis of how to turn nature's treasures into tasteful delicacies. We will come again!U&G O, Germany.
