Awaroa Lodge is a luxury, four star eco lodge, located in the beautiful Abel Tasman National Park on New Zealand's South Island.

As there is no road access, this wonderful complex provides guests with a relaxing, stress free setting from which to enjoy all that the Abel Tasman park has to offer.

The Lodge has 4 star Qualmark status, and offers guests 26 villa rooms, large Restaurant, licensed bar, and conference facilities. And Awaroa Lodge is just a short stroll from the stunning Awaroa beach.

As an eco friendly lodge, Awaroa Lodge is committed to Green Globe 21 environmental standards, and takes great pride in offering a lodge that is sensitive to the environment and dedicated to working in harmony with the surrounding park.

Accommodation

Superior Suites

The 12 Superior Suites were designed by architect picture of Superior Suite at Awaroa Lodge. Ian Athfield and overlook the adjoining wetland and native bush.

Sleep will come easy on the comfortable king size bed (with the option of twin beds).

Your suite also has a comfortable fold out sofa bed, suitable for a child or young adult.

Superior Suites also contain ensuite shower facilities, their own private outdoor decks, a small fridge, and tea & coffee making facilities.

Standard Rooms

Bedding is available with either a king/twin or 1 Queen and 1 single bed, and is suitable for 2 or 3 guests.

All standard rooms feature ensuite bathrooms, a lovely outdoor deck, a small fridge, and tea & coffee making facilities.

Family Rooms

Whilst Awaroa Lodge is the perfect escape for a romantic getaway, they also cater for families of up to six. picture of Awaroa Lodge family room. Their family rooms offer 2 Queen beds and 2 single beds. The rooms are spacious, open, and have a mezzanine floor.

Natural materials add to the style and feel of these rooms. Lounges and decking provide several areas for lazing and taking in the unique surroundings.

Family rooms have ensuite bathroom, tea & coffee making facilities, and a small fridge.

Dining

The Lodge offers guests a restaurant and cafe.

Menus feature dishes prepared using produce from the Lodge's own extensive organic garden. Seasonal greens, herbs, and vegetables are delivered fresh to your plate daily. And the smell of bread baked on site is heavenly.

Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the restaurant and cafe serve not only Lodge guests, but also people walking the famous Abel Tasman Coastal Track.

Breakfasts feature fresh homemade breads, muesli and roasted coffee. Light snacks are available throughout the day at the cafe. Evening meals are a definite highlight of your stay. Imagine choosing from a wide assortment of organic greens, beef, chicken, lamb, and a seafood selection boasting clams, scallops, tuna and swordfish. Enjoy.

Activities

At Awaroa Lodge you can be as energetic or as lazy as you wish. Relax at the lodge, or venture out and explore one of New Zealand's finest National Parks.

Kayaking

Kayak trips are designed specifically to suit Lodge guests. Trips are dependant on the weather, but picture of kayaks in Abel Tasman near Awaroa Lodge. assuming conditions allow, it won't matter what your level of expertise. The guides are experienced and qualified and will ensure that you have a trip to remember. For your comfort and safety, all trips are in double kayaks.

Here are examples of some of the available trips:

Visit the Tonga Island Seal colony plus a Guided Walk - on this trip you meet at Onetahuti beach, then kayak around the seal colony. You then head south, where you will enjoy lunch at Medlands beach. A guided bush walk takes you to Torrent Bay, where you meet your water taxi for transport back to the Lodge.

Seals and Remote Coast - kayak from Onetahuti beach to the seal colony. Then kayak south towards Bark Bay. You can stop at several beautiful inlets and beaches along the way. At Bark Bay you meet your water taxi for the trip back to the lodge.

Fishing

Is trout your preference? Brown trout are a popular choice. Or perhaps try your hand at salmon fishing at the Anatoki Salmon farm. Whatever your choice we are happy to assist.

Sailing

1)Day trips from sunny Nelson

2)Board at Kaiteriteri then sail to Anchorage, then on to Awaroa. Or extend the trip by staying on the boat overnight at Anchorage. Continue the next day to Awaroa either by water taxi or walking.

Walking

If there is one thing that the Abel Tasman National Park picture of Abel Tasman park from headland. is famous for, it's the Abel Tasman Coastal Track. The Track is one of New Zealand's Great Walks, and extends for 52 kilometres through the park. The scenery is spectacular, as you follow the coastline, crossing creeks and tidal flats. The crystal clear waters and stunning bays and beaches will provide you with memories to last a lifetime.

Here are some examples of walks that you can do during your stay at the Lodge:

Remote Mutton Cove

Rise early to catch the morning water taxi to Mutton Cove in the park's north. Then walk to Separation Point where you can view the resident seal colony. Then you have the choice of walking back to Totaranui where you can catch the water taxi, or, if you are feeling fit you can continue your walk back to Awaroa Lodge.

Anchorage/Torrent Bay

Hop on to the water taxi for your trip Anchorage/Torrent Bay for the start of your walk. The scenery between Torrent and Bark Bay is stunning (remember your camera). Continue to Onetahuti, then over the hill to Awaroa. You can also do this walk in the opposite direction, depending on the tides.

You

also have a choice of several short walks close to the Lodge including the wetland walk and Sky Track.

Getting There

By Boat

You have several options by boat:

Abel Tasman Sea Shuttle

The Sea Shuttle departs from Kaiteriteri, and takes you along the Abel Tasman coast. Commentary is provided during the trip.

Abel Tasman Aqua Taxi

The Aqua Taxi departs from the lovely seaside village of Marahau. Their smaller boats allow them to get closer to the coastline and wildlife.

By Air

There are two air transport options:

Tasman Helicopters:



picture of helicopter Abel Tasman National Park. Tasman Helicopters pick up from Nelson or Motueka. The scenic flight is spectacular, and lands you in the Awaroa wetland.

Tasman Helicopters also run 'heli lunches' for up to 6 people at the Lodge cafe.

Flight Corporation/Sounds Air:

Travel with experienced professional pilots on their 2000 model Cessna 172. The 20 minute trip from Nelson airport allows you a bird's eye view of the park, and lands on the Lodge's own airstrip.

Pick ups can also be made from Karamea, Takaka, Motueka and Wellington.
