Tour Description

Welcome to our 11 Day Southern Highlights Tour. Showcasing the best of the stunning South Island, this tour covers all of our "most requested" South Island attractions.

Beginning in the "Garden City" Christchurch, we travel South to the stunning turquoise waters of Lake Tekapo, home to the much photographed Church of the Good Shepherd and Collie Dog memorial. Across Lake Tekapo the Southern Alps and Mt Cook beckon, and after a short drive we arrive at Mt Cook village. Have your camera fully charged for photos of this spectacular World Heritage listed area.

Dunedin and its Scottish charms welcome us and a visit to historic Larnach Castle is included. From Dunedin we head west through rolling farmlands to the beautiful lakeside village of Te Anau, the gateway to Milford Sound.

Our trip from Te Anau to Milford Sound takes us through the Eglington and Hollyford Valleys, then through the Homer Tunnel before descending into Milford Sound, where we board our cruise to explore this magical fiord. Towering peaks, thundering waterfalls, and deep dark waters are all part of the Milford Sound experience.

Next stop is the bustling resort town, Queenstown. Set on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, and surrounded by huge mountains, Queenstown offers an almost endless supply of things to do. Highly recommended are the optional cruise on the historic TSS Earnslaw steamship to Walter Peak Station, or the trip to Bob's Peak on the Skyline Gondola (amazing views). For the more adventurous, jetboating, bungy jumping, and white water rafting are all available.

Traveling from Queenstown we head to the pretty lakeside town of Wanaka, then through the Haast Pass to the wild West Coast region. We stop at Fox Glacier where you have the opportunity to take the optional helicopter flight over the glacier. From here its on to Hokitika, our stop for the night. Hokitika is known as the "Jade Capital" and boasts several jade (Greenstone) factories where you can watch artists at work carving the precious stone.

From Hokitika we head north to the unusual Pancake Rocks and blowholes before heading inland through the Buller Gorge to St Arnaud. A guided tour of the area introduces you to the history and features of this beautiful spot.

Finally our tour takes us north east to Picton (in the Marlborough Sounds) where we board the InterIslander ferry for one of the World's great ferry trips, across Cook Strait to New Zealand's Capital, Wellington. A guided tour of Wellington reveals the highlights of this harbor side gem.
